Andrew Scott brought “Elsinore” to the opening night of the 2026 London Film Festival, presenting a drama he describes as an ode to living fully in the face of tragedy. Scott stars as Scottish actor Ian Charleson and also serves as a producer.
Set in late 1989, the film follows Charleson as an opportunity to play Hamlet collides with a worsening AIDS diagnosis. The production centres his determination to return to meaningful work.
Simon Stone directs from Stephen Beresford’s screenplay. Olivia Colman co-stars as pioneering doctor Margaret Johnson, whose work treating stigmatised patients is part of the story’s wider portrait of care and courage.
